Well, worry no more, and let Andy Sussens take care of all the logistics, from planning a detailed itinerary to providing transport arrangements. All you need to do is pack your bag, relax, and enjoy your perfect holiday, one destination at a time.
Born out of the love of animals and the joy of being able to share his passion for the outdoors, Andy as he is affectionately known, started Bona Tau Tours and Safaris in 2018.
As a young child, he started off helping out at a lodge that used to have a lot of hurt and injured animals, where he was integrally involved in their care and rehabilitation. To keep them safe whilst they were being hand raised, the animals were housed in camps at the reserve during the night, and in the mornings, guests were able to enjoy two or three-hour walks in the natural habitat.
When reaching his teenage years, the lodge asked Andy to start helping out, showing the guests some of the animals. Whilst not formally accredited as a field guide at this time, his knowledge, passion, and dedication to the outdoors enthralled the guests who would time and time again come and visit the lodge to feed off of the wonder shown by Andy as he guided them on a tour of his backyard. It was inevitable and in 1994, he became a fully-fledged Ranger.
Sadly, just 6 years later, in 2000, his father passed away in an unfortunate accident, and with much despair, he left the Lowveld and headed for Cape Town to spend the next 10 years in the liquor industry. Every day was torture, and the longing to be back in the bush never left his heart.
Eventually, the calling of nature won, and he headed back towards the Lowveld and started working as a guide again. During this time, the rules and regulations had changed, and in order to comply, Andy registered with SATSA.
Being back in his home town was fantastic, but the working hours were incredibly long and as a family man with young children, he was starved for the milestones he was missing out on in their lives.
This all culminated in the commencement of Bona Tau Tours and Safaris.

Our trips include, educational bush walks, private guided trips through the largest game reserve in Africa, the Kruger National Park, tailor-made African Safari Stay over tours with our highly qualified and trained team to rich adventurous locations throughout the Lowveld to transportation arrangement so you get to your destination safely.
The educational bush walk is all about the small details and getting connected with the wilderness, as you can see all the small insects and flowers that you wouldn't be able to view from a safari drive. It can be described as reading the "newspaper" of the bush, as you interpret the little details of your surroundings, like animal tracks or birdsong, to get a picture of what is happening in the bush.
A day trip to one of Africa's largest game reserves is the perfect day for any nature lover. The 5 different vegetation zones found in the park assures that you will see a wide variety of fauna, like the Big 5 (Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino), over 500 species of birds, and flora, like baobab and marula trees, so be sure to bring your binoculars and cameras, because you don't want to miss a thing.
For a longer, more immersive experience, stay over for a couple of nights at a safari lodge and be prepared to learn much more than you could in a day trip. All lodges are close to a variety of attractions and are fully customized to suit your needs and budget, making it the perfect choice for all holidaymakers, whether you’re travelling alone or with family, or looking to immerse in nature or history.
A variety of game drives, between two and three-hours long, is the ideal way to drink in the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer. Leave early in the morning as the sun rises, and see what the animals have been up to the previous night, or late afternoon to see the sunset while you enjoy some sundowners. You can even go on a drive after dark, and have dinner under the stars amongst the animals.
The Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, located at the foot of the picturesque Drakensberg escarpment, is home to a variety of animals that have been rescued and are being treated. This is great for up-close encounters, as you get the opportunity to feed some of the animals that are long-term residents of the Centre. And of course, no trip is complete without a visit to Moholoholo’s museum.
If you are a fan of getting lost in nature, the Panorama route is for you! This scenic road is centered around the Blyde River Canyon, the third-largest canyon in the world, and a myriad of waterfalls and mountain passes. Many of Mpumalanga's gorgeous natural landmarks, like God’s Window, as well as important cultural and historical sites, like the Lydenburg Museum, can be found on this route.
A visit to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, or HESC, is a must for all animal lovers, as it is home to a variety of endangered species, like wild dogs, blue cranes, and cheetahs. Day tours include trips on open safari vehicles with a knowledgeable guide providing an overview of their conservation programs, and a visit to the curio shop, where you can buy handcrafted goods and informative books.
It's not every day that you get to be up close and personal with a hippopotamus, never mind giving them a backrub. That's why a visit with Jessica the hippo, who was rescued back in 2000 as a newborn calf, is simply a must! Jessica is very sociable, and not only do you get to give her snacks and two bottles of her favourite tea, but this is followed up by giving her a backrub - with your feet!
